Who We Are

Hands on Heritage is a professional communications team headed by Robin Van Auken, owner and chief executive officer. Robin is an author, an educator, and a registered professional archaeologist, a skillset she uses every day as a cultural heritage and communication specialist. She enjoys working on projects, large and small, in the field and in the office.

Robin is a writer and researcher, with 35+ years experience interviewing people and telling stories. Her educational background combines advanced degrees in Communications and Anthropology, with a focus on Public and Historical (Military/Industrial Sites) Archaeology. In addition to her work as a journalist, she is the author and co-author of a dozen books on regional history. An adjunct college instructor, she has directed multi-year historical and archaeological projects, working with hundreds of volunteers and temporary staff, and educating thousands of visitors.
Lance Van Auken
Lance Van Auken Lead Consultant
Lance directed every detail of a $4.4 million museum renovation project, from architectural and construction aspects to selection of graphics and artifact mounting. For more than a year, he collaborated with Cambridge 7 Associates of Cambridge, Mass., architect and designer of the World of Little League Museum, as well as the media provider, Cortina Productions, and the exhibit fabricator, D&P Inc., to create the world-class museum. The World of Little League Museum project remained on schedule and under budget. He leads Little League’s efforts to publicize the new museum through traditional and new media.

With a background in analytics, web development, and communications, Sarah helps you find the most efficient and engaging way to tell your story, share your message, and inspire your supporters. A graduate of the George Washington University with a major in Religion and Art History, Sarah is a member of the Digital Analytics Association, and a board member of Paramedics for Children, as well as the George Washington University Band Alumni & Friends. She’s also an editor at InnovationManagement.se, Volunteer Forever, and Frayed Passport, and is living the dream traveling the world and working wherever there’s a good wifi connection and even better coffee.

Tonya Anderson is a writer, mindfulness therapist, and inspirational speaker. She has vast experience working with veterans and politicians, having served as a Chief of Staff for a State Representative. Born in Hollywood, CA, Tonya grew up in a military family on Naval Station Treasure Island in the middle of San Francisco Bay, and in Pearl City, HI. With degrees in Criminal Justice and Mental Health Counseling, she is best known for her retreats and helping people resolve stress, PTSD, relationship difficulties, and traumas from their past. She successfully and effectively integrates mindfulness, solution-focused spirituality and therapies in achieving great outcomes.

Louis E. Hunsinger, Jr. is a freelance writer and historic researcher. He contributes to newspapers, as well as research journals. His areas of expertise include writing, researching, baseball, politics, popular culture, and military history. He has a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and History. He has written several books on Minor League Baseball and regional history, and is the co-author of several books with Hands on Heritage owner, Robin Van Auken. His hobbies are reading and watching baseball, and is a fan of vintage television shows and movies.
