A recent vacation in Ireland, coupled with a bit of recreational reading of romance novels resulted in a dream last week. I didn’t want to wake up; I wanted to finish the dream, a story about a young woman visiting The Burren, the mountainous West Coast of the Emerald Isle. This also is where the Cliffs of Moher are located. You’ll recall these as the Cliffs of Insanity in the classic fairy tale “The Princess Bride.”
Frustrated at the abrupt end of the dream, I kicked off the covers and stumbled downstairs to my office to write. Nearly an hour and 3,000 words later, I had an outline that pairs a ruggedly handsome (how could he not be?) Irish bartender with an impetuous and spirited American woman.
There are lots of typical Irish locales such as pubs and castles and churches, as well as historic towns and bays. There are sailboats and vineyards and lots of steamy love scenes, common elements in many of my stories.
